Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
Ketamine‑assisted psychotherapy (KAP) is a collaborative therapeutic approach that brings together the supportive presence of a doctorate‑prepared psychiatric care provider and a licensed mental health professional. Together, they guide treatment alongside the unique, temporary effects of ketamine to deepen insight, healing, and personal growth.
Many people find that ketamine can help soften rigid patterns of thought and emotion, making it easier to explore their inner world with openness and compassion.
KAP is not about “escaping” or forcing change. It’s about creating a safe, intentional space where insight, healing, and emotional flexibility can emerge.
How Ketamine Can Support the Therapeutic Process
Ketamine has been studied for its ability to influence brain networks involved in mood, perception, and emotional processing.
During a session, people often describe feeling:
– More reflective or introspective
– Less caught in habitual thought loops
– More connected to their emotions or inner experience
– A sense of calm, spaciousness, or perspective
These shifts are temporary, but they can open a meaningful window for therapeutic work.
The Role of Psychotherapy in KAP
Ketamine is only one part of the process. The therapeutic relationship—your connection with your clinician—is central.
Before your session
You’ll spend time preparing, setting intentions, and building a sense of safety and trust.
During your session
Your therapist remains present and attentive, offering grounding, reassurance, and gentle guidance when needed.
After your session
Integration sessions help you make sense of your experience and translate insights into meaningful changes in daily life. This is where much of the long‑term growth happens.
Your KAP Providers
Naturally Connected Counseling’s KAP Therapists and Doctorate Preparaed Psychiatric Provider have received speciality training in ketamine‑assisted psychotherapy and understand the unique emotional, psychological, and experiential landscapes that can arise during this work.
Their training includes:
– Supporting clients through altered states of consciousness
– Guiding preparation and integration with care and clarity
-Creating a grounded, attuned presence throughout the session
– Helping clients make meaning of insights in a safe, structured way
They approach each session with respect, curiosity, and a deep commitment to your wellbeing. Their role is not to direct your experience, but to accompany you through it with steadiness and compassion.
Safety, Screening, Preperation & Support
KAP is not the right fit for everyone. Before beginning, you’ll complete a thorough screening process to ensure that ketamine is a safe and appropriate option for you. This includes an intake appointment with a Doctorate Preparaed Psychiatric Provider, where your history, needs, and goals are explored with care.
You’ll also participate in preparation session(s) with your therapist. The number of preparation sessions is determined collaboratively as part of your individual treatment plan. These sessions help you build trust, clarify intentions, and feel grounded before your first ketamine experience.
After each ketamine session, you’ll return for integration sessions. These conversations help you make sense of what arose, connect insights to your daily life, and support meaningful, lasting change.
All ketamine sessions take place in a calm, supportive environment, and you are never left alone during active treatment.
Your comfort, emotional wellbeing, and sense of agency are always the priority.
What a Typical Session Looks Like?
While each person’s journey is unique, a KAP session often includes:
– Preparation: reviewing intentions, grounding, and answering questions
– Administration of ketamine: in a safe, monitored setting provided by our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
– Inward experience: a period of quiet reflection or guided support
– Integration: discussing insights and emotions afterward
The pace is gentle, and you are encouraged to move at a rhythm that feels right for you.
What We Know—and What We Don’t
Research suggests that ketamine may help some people experiencing depression, anxiety, or trauma‑related symptoms. At the same time, it is not a cure or a quick fix. KAP works best as part of a broader therapeutic process that includes ongoing support, self‑reflection, and lifestyle care.
We approach this work with passion, good intention, humility, curiosity, and respect for each person’s unique path.
Costs of KAP
Preparation and integration sessions are structured as psychotherapy appointments, and many insurance plans cover them. Coverage varies by individual plan, so we encourage clients to check their specific benefits to understand what their policy includes. While we cannot guarantee coverage, most clients find that their preparation and integration work is reimbursable under their mental health benefits.
Because ketamine for mental‑health–related purposes is an off‑label use, insurance companies typically do not cover the ketamine sessions themselves. The ketamine dosing sessions will involve an out‑of‑pocket cost.
We will review all fees with you in advance so you can make informed decisions about your care.
Our goal is to be transparent, supportive, and collaborative as you navigate both the therapeutic and practical aspects of treatment.
